Informed consent quote

“If one went to the extreme of giving the patient the full details of mortality and morbidity related to cesarean section, most of them would get up and go out and have their baby under a tree…”
-Neel, J. Medicolegal pressure, MDs’ lack of patience cited in cesarean ‘epidemic.’ Ob.Gyn. News Vol 22 No 10

  2. I wholeheartedly agree with this…I remember being so scared, not knowing what was going on, and then having to sign paperwork while blood’s being drawn, blood pressure is being taken, and being shaved…I didn’t have time or the ability to read the form, let alone take in what it meant. After I got back down to my room from being in recovery for 4 hours and NOT seeing my baby or knowing if he was ok, I read those forms, and wished I had never signed them…easier on the doctors, but not on mama or baby…

  3. We need to mention that infertility may be a result of removal of the uterus following placenta accreta, increta and percreta once very rare but now increasing with its accompanied maternal haemorrhage. Why? Because repeat Caesarian Birth sca.rs the uterus and the placenta implants in the scar, sometimes stated to be more usual after the 3rd lot of “abdominal surgery for birth”. The other name for Caesarean birth. So repeat Caesaarian birth can result in the necessary removal of the whole uterus if the placenta embeds in the uterine wall or worse grows through to the abdomen. The haemorrhage alone causes shock. Are you being told? This is why women are coming to midwives to have a vaginal birth after Caesarean. VBAC OR Home Birth after Caesarian birth. HBAC Californian. USA statistics of maternal death also need to be examined produced in late 2009 early 2010. Amnesty International has raised concerns about the Californian rate of maternal Death.
If you are black you are more likely in that state to have an induction or Caesarian birth.

  4. Before I had my emergency C-Section, I had also seen the potential consequence of not having one when it was needed. I’ve worked special ed and seen a child w/ cerebral palsy who developed it because he got stuck in the birth canal when his mom was in labor 36 hours and was deprived of oxygen. Maybe I shouldn’t have elected to induce (I had a little toxemia) but I wouldn’t argue w/ a C-section. And I still got to hold my son pretty soon after. His dad watched over the nurse’s shoulders who cleaned him up before handing him over.
